About Percy Jackson Books
The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is a young adult fantasy series written by Rick Riordan. It is about a twelve-year-old boy who discovers he is a demigod, the son of Poseidon, and goes on quests to prevent a war between the Titans and Olympian gods.
The first book in the series, The Lightning Thief, was published in 2005 by Miramax Books. The fifth and final book, The Last Olympian was published on May 5th 2009
The Disney+ Series
Disney acquired the rights to the Percy Jackson books following its takeover of 21st Century Fox in 2019. In May 2020 it was revealed by Rick Riordan that Disney would be producing a live action television series. The first series will be based on the first book in the series, The Lighting Thief, with Riordan himself along with his wife involved in the development of the tv show (unlike the movies). The series was greenlit in January 2022 and production began in June 2022. The show is expected to premiere on Disney+ in the early part of 2024.
