About Chainsaw Man
The Manga
The anime will be based on the Chainsaw Man Manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. It is licenced in English by Viz Media. The first part was serialized from December 2018 to December 2020 in the Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine. It was the seventh best selling manga in 2021.
After a two year hiatus the second part of the manga began serialization on July 13 2022. A new chapter will be released every Tuesday.
In 2021 the chapters were gathered in eleven tankōbon volumes. There are 13 million copies of the manga in circulation. It has been widely praised, particularly for its characters, worldbuilding and storytelling. The manga is very dark and violent with plenty of gore, and these are all elements which will hopefully transfer to the anime!
About The Upcoming Anime
The anime for Chainsaw Man will be based on the Shonen Jump manga of the same name.
Broke young man + chainsaw demon = Chainsaw Man!
Denji is a young man with a simple dream: to live a happy and peaceful life with a girl he likes. However, Denji is forced by the yakuza into killing devils to pay off his debts. So, using his pet devil dog Pochita as a weapon, he is ready to do anything for a bit of cash.
Until he is murdered by a devil in contract with the yakuza. But Pochita merges with Denji’s body and grants him the powers of a chainsaw devil. Now he can turn parts of his body into chainsaws. So he’s able to quickly and brutally dispatch of his enemies. And that makes him catch the eye of official Public Safety devil hunters, who offer him work as one of them.
Ryū Nakayama will be directing the series. His other works include: Fate/Grand Order and the Rising of the Shield Hero. As well as this, he has worked on movie adaptions for Pokemon, Madoka Magica, and Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission.
Kensuke Ushio will be in charge of the music. Previously, he has done several soundtracks for anime series and movies, like Devilman Crybaby.
Hiroshi Seko is the screenwriter for Chainsaw Man. His previous screenwriting works include: Attack on Titan final season, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, Vinland Saga, Banana Fish, Terror in Resonance, Seraph of the End, Ajin: Demi-Human, Mob Psycho 100, and Dorohedoro.
The anime will be available to stream on Crunchyroll later this year. Crunchyroll will also be dubbing the series in English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French and German.
