The sign of a good book is the sadness when finishing it. One should feel bittersweet regardless of an ending purely for having finished it. When we reached the last page of A Court of Wings and Ruin, we were sad to close the book and leave the world.

The novel has, much like the others in the series, a fast-moving and daring plot. We can’t forget the twists, turns and romance, of course! Whilst some books’ use of cliffhangers may be disengaging and annoying, Maas’ cliffhangers only draw you in more. There is no such thing as ‘just one chapter’ in this series!

Fans of High-Fantasy might be especially receptive to this addition to the series. We see a lot of expansion of world-building and background knowledge. Whilst the previous two novels were limited to Spring, Summer, and Night Courts; in this novel, we are introduced to the Autumn, Dawn, Day, and Winter Courts! This exploration is done with a highlight of the political tension between the High Lords.

Romance? You betcha! We have the fan-favourite couple of Feyre and Rhysand. Now there is also an additional budding romance between Nesta and Cassian! Hopefully we get to see this explored fully in the next book!

Overall, we must applaud Maas’ care to creating this series. In this novel, we see that many events were foreshadowed in the previous books right under our very noses.
